“I’m New to Medicare”: Where to Start
Navigating the complexities of Medicare can be daunting, especially if you're new to the process. Whether you need guidance on enrolling, understanding your Initial Enrollment Period, or exploring cost-effective options like Medicare Advantage, we're here to help.
Our goal is to make the transition to Medicare seamless, offering assistance through no-obligation consultations and online resources. Let us help you take the first steps toward securing your healthcare needs with confidence and ease.
Sign Up for Medicare Online
Some individuals may be automatically enrolled in Medicare upon turning 65 if they meet specific conditions. If you are not automatically enrolled, you can easily sign up online through the Social Security website in just a few minutes. We can also assist in this process during our no-obligation consultation.
When to Sign Up for Medicare
Most people can sign up for Medicare starting three months before their 65th birthday. Your Initial Enrollment Period (IEP) spans seven months—beginning three months before your 65th birthday, including your birthday month, and ending three months after. Failing to enroll during your IEP may require you to wait for the fall Open Enrollment Period unless you qualify for a special enrollment period.
Medicare Advantage: A Cost-Effective Option
Medicare Advantage plans provide the same benefits as Medicare Part A and Part B, with additional benefits that Original Medicare may not cover. To enroll in a Medicare Advantage plan, you must first be enrolled in Medicare Part A and Part B and reside in the plan's service area. You can join a Medicare Advantage plan anytime during your Initial Enrollment Period. If you miss this period, your next opportunity is the Medicare Fall Open Enrollment Period from October 15 to December 7 each year.
Costs Associated with Medicare Advantage
Medicare Advantage plans are managed by private insurers, giving them control over the plans they offer and their pricing. Enrolling in Medicare Advantage requires you to continue paying your monthly Part B premium, which is $174.70 in 2024, though this amount may be higher based on your income. If your Medicare Advantage plan has an additional premium, you will be responsible for paying it along with your Part B premium. Out-of-pocket costs such as deductibles, copayments, and coinsurance will vary by plan.
